N-CON Systems Sentinel 6T Sewage Sampler

General Description of Equipment

Liquid to be sampled flows into the sampling chamber through a 2" NPT line. After thorough mixing, it flows over an adjustable weir to waste through a 3" NPT line. Flow into the sample chamber may be by either gravity flow or by pumping and is exhausted to waste by gravity in either case. Flow through the sample chamber should be from ten to thirty gallons per minute. Samples are collected from the flowing liquid in the sample chamber by oscillating, constant volume dipper.

Control is provided by an on-board Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) which may be programmed for time cycle sampling or proportional sampling with an external contact making or 4-20madc flowmeter. The dipper periodically enters the liquid and removes a 20 ML sample at which point it returns to the raised position. Collected sample flows out of the dipper, through the sample transfer tube to the sample storage container. The sampler is provided with an integral refrigerator to maintain the sample storage temperature at no more than 5°C. A precision temperature regulator is set at the factory for 4C° +/- 1°C.

Detailed Description of Equipment

The sample control programmer is located in a NEMA 12 housing integral with the sample chamber.

PLC (Programmable Logic Controller):
This control may be programmed as either a timer of counter. In the timer modes it is set with the required period between samples. In the flow mode it will totalize up to 9999 counts or impulses from a remote flowmeter (by others) or 4-20milliamp signals from flowmeter (by others.). System OFF-ON Switch: This switch controls sampling and programmable logic control.

Refrigeration OFF-ON Switch:
This switch controls refrigerator independently of sampler.

Sampling indicator light:
This pilot light is on during sample collection to prevent accidental removal of container while sample is being delivered.

Main fuse, 10 Amp:
Provides over all circuit protection

Flowmeter fuse, ½ am slo-blo:
Protects flowmeter input to programmable logic controller (PLC).

TEST push button:
Test push button on the PLC is the yellow +/-. to check sampler operation or to collect grab samples. It does not effect the automatic operation settings. Green sample light is lighted during sample collection.

Sample Counter is integral with PLC:
Press [ Sample counter indicates number of samples collected. It may be adjusted to suit installation. It must be reset at start of each new composite. To reset count, press 8 when new sample container is installed. Default setting is 350 samples.

PLEASE NOTE SYSTEM MUST BE RESET EACH TIME SAMPLE CONTAINER IS REMOVED TO PREVENT THE SYSTEM FROM SHUTTING DOWN DURING THE NEXT SAMPLING SEQUENCE.

Sample Chamber:
The sample chamber is fabricated of virgin, unplasticised PVC. plate. This is welded by a combination of hot nitrogen and chemical welding. The chamber is divided into two parts by an adjustable weir. Chamber turbulence keeps liquid well mixed for collection by the sampling dipper. Gasketed cover seals the sample chamber from the control system

Dipper Drive Mechanism:
The dipper is raised and lowered by permanently lubricated, electrically braked.

Sample Dipper:
Individual samples are collected by an oscillating, constant volume dipper which enters the liquid only at the moment of sampling and then is raised clear of the liquid to transfer sample to the sample container. Dipper is cast aluminum with baked on TEFLON™ (FEP) coating.

Refrigeration System:
Type: Thermoelectric, with no gases or rotating seals
Temperature Control: 33°F- 39°F adjust knob located inside control compartment
Ambient temperature: 32°F - 110°F
Pull down time: 82°F to 39°F 30 minutes (Typical)
